ServeUP was born after Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans in August 2005. In 2006, college students from all over the country went down to the Gulf Coast to help. InterVarsity students responded by serving the city of New Orleans from 2006 to 2017. New England students continued to love the city of New Orleans well after others left after the initial three years. Since then, over 9,000 New England students have given their Spring breaks to love the city.
Starting in 2015, InterVarsity students responded to other natural disasters and needs to serve those who had lost homes through storms in Baton Rouge, Houston, Puerto Rico, Tampa and Panama City Florida! Our students not only spend the days rebuilding homes impacted by storms, but each night (and during the day) are stimulated by great conversations and friendships built upon the common bond of service. Our discussions each night include challenging topics of service, community, faith and justice. Everyone’s views are listened to and respected.
This March, we step forward to continue to serve the people of New Orleans and the surrounding parishes.
